Joel is the father of a 4-year-old and husband to a brilliant spouse and partner. It is in part because of his family that he has a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. As they've watched the abuse of power, climate disasters, and racial inequities unfold over the last few years, they are recommitted to their belief that environmental justice is social justice, and he will work tirelessly to advance both.
The Port of Olympia is uniquely positioned at the intersection of economic development and environmental conservation. As your Port Commissioner, I’ll work to drive positive change in those areas. What does that look like? For one, cultivating living-wage jobs. This means attracting and supporting businesses that take care of people and the environment. To grow our future, we will need a holistic approach.
Transparency, accountability, and compassion are the heart of public service. That’s why I promise open communication about the Port’s activities and to listen to tax-payers. This goes beyond just how we do business, but who we do business with. We want our vendors, contacts, and connections to reflect the populations we serve, while being good stewards of our financial and natural resources.
